Saturday, July 28th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedThere are many ways to spend a weekend. Camping is perhaps one of the more enjoyable. Not only is camping nice for individuals who want to get away, but it can be even nicer when shared in the company of family members.
For families, getting away from the city and entering the wilderness often breaks apart many distractions they normally face. It allows them to interact with each other and converse in ways they never had previously. This really can facilitate a sort of familial catharsis.
If and when the family has decides to go camping, there are some basic pieces of camping gear that should be obtained in order to make the experience a memorable one. Obviously, the basics are important. This usually includes a tent, some cooking equipment, and other miscellaneous trinkets that could prove useful in certain situations.
Tent
The tend is easily the most important item you will purchase when you shop for camping gear. If you have a limited budget, make sure you purchase a sturdy, habitable, safe tent before you spend money on anything else. In a large part, the tent will determine how well your trip goes (unless your family doesn’t mind sharing a bed with wild animals).
The tent should be large enough to accommodate all members of the camping trip. Tents are made from all sorts of durable materials. Some of those materials can include nylon and canvas. Mainly, the tent should be sturdy enough to provide the needed protection. In addition, it is probably advisable to have sleeping bags for all of the campers as well.
As an aside, it is not necessary to purchase new camping gear items. Often good camping gear equipment can be purchased at garage sales or by searching the classifieds. One caution is to make sure that if a tent is purchased it be erected prior to the camping trip. Once the tent has been set up it is important to check for holes and repair those holes using a tent repair kit.
Cooking Equipment
Other important pieces of camping gear is cooking equipment. When selecting your cooking equipment it is important to select pots and pans that are easy to cook on and are utensils that are easy to clean. Therefore, the use of non stick cookware is suggested.
Also, to keep your cooking ware in good shape it is important to properly clean the items before storing. Instructions on care of your cooking ware is generally included with the purchase or the camper can look on line for suggestions on how to care for the equipment.
Miscellaneous Camping Gear
Other miscellaneous camping gear can include a flashlight, first-aid kit, propane stove, knife, etc. Also, a good suggestion is to take along extra batteries.
